The story has a beginning, or first act, where the audience is introduced to the players or the product or the challenge, a second act where the hero – be it a person or service or product – goes to work on the challenge, and a third act where the victory is realized and the hero celebrated. Virtually every compelling story has these three phases or “acts”.
An impactful first act that grabs viewer attention is likely to sustain that viewer throughout the story. Strength in the second act and a blockbuster finale may not even get seen if a first act loses the attention of the viewer and off they click to something else.
