“…but I called him Papi.”
Nikki Williams’s “Papi” (Arlington McCloe) was diagnosed with non-Hodgkins Lymphoma in March of 2016. As the disease progressed it became necessary to turn to hospice for care of the grandfather she loved. Because of past positive experiences with Allied Rehab and on the recommendation of friends and family, Allied Hospice was chosen to provide compassionate quality care in this very difficult time.
Nikki and her family suffered a great loss when her Grandfather passed away, but she remarked how the Hospice Team from Allied made it possible for them to spend his last weeks, days, hours and moments free from the stress of care, and able to share those difficult moments to the fullest.
According to Allied, “Allied Hospice is a model of palliative care for patients diagnosed with a life-limiting illness. Palliative care ensures the patient’s comfort by controlling pain and other troubling symptoms. Working closely with the family physician, hospice coordinates the involvement of nurses, personal care aides, counselors and respite care personnel, as needed. These professionals work as a team to optimize the patient’s quality of life and to ease the burden on family members. Our goal is to provide compassionate care for patients with end-stage illnesses such as cancer, cardiac disease, Alzheimer’s, vascular disease, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), A.L.S., or chronic renal failure. The hospice team includes a Medical Director (a physician), Registered Nurse/Case Manager, Medical Social Worker, Certified Nurses’ Aides, Spiritual and Bereavement Counselors, and specially-trained volunteers. Other professionals are available to meet specific needs, including physical, occupational, speech and respiratory therapists; dietitians and pharmacists.”
Our Interview for Nikki
To tell Nikki’s story Allied turned to the MLB Advertising/MEGCOMM Video Production team to produce a 30 second television commercial and a 3 minute web video. The MLB/MEGCOMM team has produced many commercials and videos for Allied over the past 6 years. “The opportunity to tell Nikki’s story was a great honor”, said MEGCOMM’s Mike Gorga. Producer John Bartorillo conducted a pre-interview, along with director/cinematographer Mike Gorga, at Nikki’s Wilkes-Barre apartment. The team then reconvened with the camera and sound and lighting package and gaffer/grip Tom Mooney weeks later to shoot the interview.
Post-production took place at MEGCOMM’s Wilkes-Barre based studio with Bartorillo and Gorga collaborating on the interview edit. Nikki supplied some photographs with which to enhance the interview story experience.
Both video and TV spot are available on Allied’s website. The professional commercial will air in the greater Scranton/Wilkes-Barre market this spring.
